A stunning marquetry inlaid vanity bearing the original retailers label for Druce & Co. London. The upper section with a raised galleried top inlaid with exotic floral and bellflower inlays and an arrangement of mahogany lined drawers. The lower section with a mahogany top and tooled black leather writing inset and centered mirror. Center drawer flanked by two deeper drawers. To the legs, there is inlaid stringing and inlaid decoration. The whole vanity stands on elegant tapering legs which terminate in their original brass castors. This beautiful vanity has good color and patina and has a mild wear for the age. English circa 1900 Dimensions: 39" high x 39" wide x 22" deep (knee hole 23" high) Druce & Co was founded by Thomas Charles Druce around 1840, and traded from 68 Baker Street, Portman Square. The premises were also informally known as “the Baker Street Bazaar”, the site originally being the home of a horse bazaar which extended to carriages and other goods in the 1830s. Druce & Co. were both cabinet makers and retailers of second hand furniture; in the Marylebone Trade Directory of 1853 they are described as '' Furnishers, Upholsterers and Upholders for Clients of Discernment.’ Following the death of T.
