Seat back folds forward Handle compressesFolded carriage measures 12" x 20" x 30"This unique baby carriage/buggy was the early 1900 invention of two employees of the Sturgis Steel Go Kart Company of Sturgis, MichiganThe inventors were Christopher Steele Spofford and Frederick William Jonas, probably as fathers were very aware of the problems with the baby carriages available at the time.The idea of the new invention was to correct some of the problems in the currently available baby carriages such as stability, which their means of locking components in place solved.Large wheels and spring suspension made the carriage easy to maneuver and comfortable for the child.Being able to fold the carriage, collapsing it to a very small size made it easy to travel, taking it along.By 1912, the two men applied for a patent for their Collapsible Carriage.Dated Jan.5, 1904, March 24 1907, Sept. 17, 1908 and other patents were pending.With a used item of this age, there are condition issues.Chrome is rusty in places. There is a tear in the fabric behind the footrest, and one wheel has a couple of chunks out of the rubber, but it still is held in place.Carriage has original black paint.The carriage footrest reads: THE STURGIS STEELE CARRIAGE COMPANY MANUFACTURED UNDER FOLLOWING PATENTS JAN. 5,1904 MAR. 24, 1907 SEPT. 17, 1908PLEASE SEE PHOTOS.
