This is a custom 12" figure commemorating a real American hero, Corporal Joseph H. De Castro. Joseph H. De Castro was a Union corporal in the all volunteer 19th Massachusetts infantry during the Civil War. De Castro was the first Hispanic American to earn the Medal of Honor in the Civil War. De Castro earned his country's highest honor for his actions during Pickett's Charge on the third and final day (7-3-1863) of the Battle of Gettysburg. Corporal De Castro was the color bearer for the 19th Massachusetts infantry. When De Castro charged into battle he attacked a color bearer for the 19th Virginia infantry regiment. De Castro seized the Confederate flag from the enemy flag bearer and raced pack to his own lines. There, Corporal Joseph De Castro thrust his prize into the hands of his commanding officer General Alexander S. Webb and charged back into battle. For his efforts De Castro was awarded the Medal of Honor on December 1-1864. This figure is designed mainly for display purposes for the history/wild west fan. stand included. sold as is.
