TETON FOUNDRY SUPPLY™Super-Silicate™ Foundry-Grade Sodium Silicate Based CO2 Core Binder Super-Silicate™ is a high-performance foundry sand core binder designed for making both molds and cores for use in metal casting. Super-Silicate™ is a specially processed form of sodium silicate blended with shakeout-assisting additives that is designed to be cured with CO2 gas. The special processing of this product gives it advantages over normal sodium silicate--namely a 1.5/100 weight mix ratio (vs 4/100 or more) which acts to improve surface finish due to the reduction of water mixed into the core sand. Quick Hardens with CO2, No Baking RequiredSuper-Silicate™ requires a CO2 tank or other CO2 source to harden (beverage gas cylinder, welding cylinder, paintball cylinder). We have found that injection, bagging, and flow-through CO2 curing methods all work well. Baking is not needed or recommended with Super-Silicate™. Works with a variety of sand typesSuper-Silicate™ binder can be used with sand ranging from 50 mesh to 130 mesh. Sand should always be kiln-dried and free of organic debris. Very fine sand generally requires a higher mix percentage of Super-Silicate™ binder to sand which is best determined by experimentation (above 4% should not be needed). Finer sand cores will also likely require internal venting passages. Improved Safety and Odor PropertiesUnlike most other competing high-performance binder products (Furan, etc), this does not have an appreciable smell, doesn't smoke or fume when you pour it, and is non-hazardous (but still can severely irritate skin and especially eyes--please read the label and take precautions).
