OUTSTANDING circa 1900's Antique Crazy Quilt BRILLIANT COLORS & UNIQUE APPLIQUÉ - $650 - (Weidman, MI)
This circa 1900's handmade victorian era crazy quilt is really vibrant and is SO much more beautiful person. I attempted to capture the brilliance of the colors, but don't feel I did it justice. The charming appliqué designs are really unique and detailed. The clever embroidered appliqué designs feature (including, but not limited to) : Hands---one with wedding ring, and one without, airplane, flowers, leaves, assorted foliage, geometrical designs, a swan and other animals, a horseshoe...really just too many to name. This variety includes the different fabrics used, as well. Velvet, plaid, cotton, wool, on and on (truly a CRAZY quilt). You can tell a great deal love and care went into it's creation. Most likely the documentation of a life well lived. The quilt is owned by my friends 85 year old mother, who received it as a gift from her aunt. She wasn't told much about it's history, so she had it appraised a few years ago by a woman who for years has worked with WWCQG (Western Wayne County Quilters Guild) and many museums appraising quilts and lecturing on textiles ---and I've included a picture of the appraisal (personal information blocked out). The appraisal form which indicates the quilts value at $1500.00 will come along with the quilt to the winning bidder. The quilt measures 78" by 82" and is in very good (excellent for it's age) condition. The materials are varied, as mentioned above---cotton, wool, linen and velvet with a beautiful cotton backing and beard shield. The quilt is strong and sturdy overall and looks fabulous. There are a few moth tiny moth nibbles and one smallish area of wear (the last two pictures show this). This quilt does have a beard shield in great condition which matches the beautiful striped backing. If you would like additional pictures or information, please feel free to ask.
