Antique crazy quilt with dated ribbons 1882 and 1886. Made by Belle Williams born in 1851 Brockport, New York What makes this crazy quilt so beautiful are the fans in each corner each unique and different colors, just fabulous. Ribbons from 1882 Silsby firehouse competition and 1886 annual parade are good condition for age. Pieced velvet, silk Taffia and brocade fabrics are used in this wonderful crazy quilt. Embroidered fireman. Many different embroideries found in this unique beauty. Scattered florals, crescent moon and animal embroidered motifs throughout. Burgundy/brown border in velvet fabric. Blue silk or taffeta fabric backing. 59 x 68. Losses to silk. See pictures. Acquired from a New England private collection.
