UNUSED ENGLISH/SCOTTISH MARKED CLAY PIPE, FUSILIERS REDOUBT,YORKTOWN, VA. 1781 This unused English/Scottish white clay pipe was found in the old Royal Welch Fusiliers Redoubt & is from the Siege & the Battle of Yorktown in September & October, 1781. This pipe is 2 1/4” long with T W in an oval on the back of the 1 9/16” long x 15/16” diameter bow & a heart design on the right side cast in high relief. There were about half a dozen of these pipes found here, this is the only one in unused used condition without any tobacco stains on the bowl. It is in good & unused condition with some dirt stains from being in the ground for all those years.. They were all bought by James Anderson from an early historian in Yorktown who had collected & found a large amount of artifacts from the Yorktown area before all that area became N.P.S. owned land. Scottish & English maker marked pipes are quite rare here in America, especially ones made in the 1700’s! It comes with a certificate of authenticity, an Anderson Collection letter.
