Set of 6 William Fearn Fiddle Sterling Silver Place Spoons ca.1840 London 315g - $200 - (Bloomington, IN)
Submitted for your consideration is this set of 6 sterling silver place spoons in a fiddle & thread pattern produced by William Fearn of London ca.1839-40. They are all hallmarked with a lion passant, leopard's head, a "D" date mark for 1839-40, and a duty mark (please see my 3rd picture). They measure roughly 6-7/8" in length, by 1-1/2" widest bowl width, and together weigh a total of 10.13 troy ounces (315 grams). They all appear to be in excellent overall condition for their age, with surprisingly little surface wear for over a century and a half of use and polishing. There are no monograms, or other personalized engravings. These would make an ideal addition to any collection of antique British sterling silver tableware.
