SUMNER, Jethro. Continental Army General Autograph Letter Signed, 2 pages, “Warren Coty.” (North Carolina), November 19, 1783. To “Lt. Col. Thackston” – James Thackston, formerly Continental officer from North Carolina. Post war business letter by this interesting and active North Carolina patriot leader; he was wealthy if not highly educated. “My negro Toney sets on his joyney to you at Fayette Ville…I wish may meet yr Messenger after Him agreeable to promis…I wish you to supply him with such clothing as realy may be necessary for two months. Tho I am doubtful the present money will depreciate, ere the meeting of the Assembly, if so, I have directed Toney, to leave Fayette Ville, unless you are agreed to allow me for such a depreciation. I have not a word of news to acquaint you with…politicks are much done away husbandry & merchandize, seem to engage the states…” Fine but for some light staining in spots.
