Antique Pianolin made by The Pianolin Co. Mt Pleasant, Iowa No visible cracks or damage. Very dusty with obvious signs of wear. It will probably need tuning, cleaning, new strings and other things not seen by an untrained eye. Selling for parts or restoration. Measures approx. 22" x 8" Has a paper inside That says Pianolin Co. Mt Pleasant, Iowa Warrented 5 years and the price then that was $28.50, and a decal on the bottom that says: "This is an Original Marx Instrument" The Pianolin was invented in about 1930 by Henry C. Marx. The name is a combination of “piano” and “violin.” The instrument has two sets of strings, one that’s played with a bow and a smaller set that’s strummed. The piano-like “keyboard” indicates the melody notes. Marx, a concert violinist and music teacher, sold musical instruments door to door before founding the Marxochime Colony in New Troy in 1927. He and his son, Charles, invented several unusual instruments, including the Pianolin, Pianoette, Banjolin, Hawaii-Phone, Mandolin-Uke, Marx Piano Harp, Violin Uke and a guitar with only one string. Pianolas can be found marked either “Pianolin Co. Mount Pleasant, Iowa” or “Marxochime Colony New Tory, Mich.” Postage combined on similar items that fit in a single package only.
