Very Rare Lou Gehrig "The Pride of the Yankees" Bronze Statue - $3,000 - (Perry, FL)
As a revered multi-faceted sculptor based out of St. Louis, R.P. Daus created another magnificent work with the offered Lou Gehrig “The Pride of the Yankees” bronze statue. Suitable for display in the finest sports gallery, this 1988 statue depicts Gehrig following through on his lethal swing. Upon initial glance, it is evident that the artist paid the strictest attention to detail in reproducing New York’s uniform and in capturing the facial expressions associated with Gehrig’s demeanor. Purportedly, the sculpture, which stands 17” tall and rests on a two-inch marble base adorned in pinstripes, was modeled after a Charles Conlon glass negative from The Sporting News Archive and was offered in the pages of the periodical in the late-1980s. The artist carved and dated the lower portion of the statue near Gehrig’s left foot. The etchings appear as when they were produced in 1988. Weighs 21.12 pounds and is free of discernable wear. Very Rare item since there were so few made. Buyer to pay 25.00 shipping due to weight.
