JAPAN 19th C KUTANI 5 Character Mark ORNATE SMALL TRAY Iron Red & Pearl - $200 - (Franklin, NC)

This is an ornately decorated Kutani small porcelain tray signed with a 5 character signature. Among the images in the decoration are two pearls in a stylized oyster shell, a swirling nautilus and flowers everywhere. There is one tiny chip on an edge that is so shallow it may be a glaze flake and not a chip. There are no other flaws, chips or cracks. We have said it is from the 19th Century, but it may be from 18th Century. There is slight wear all over. It measures 6 inches corner to corner or 5 1/8 inch by 4 1/8 inch by 1 inch deep. It has a wonderful iron red and gold decorated irregular border. We welcome and encourage you to ask questions, especially on antique items. Please see the pictures.
