"RARE" JOHNSTON LAWN MOWER CORP. VINTAGE LAWN PATROL REEL TYPE LAWN MOWER ENGINE - $150 - (Bemidji, MN)
Here is a rarely found lawn mower engine from a self propelled reel type lawn mower. This approx. 3 hp. 4 cycle, horizontal shaft engine was manufactured in Ottomwa, Iowa by the "Johnston Lawn Mower Corp." There is not a lot of information on this vintage Briggs style engine other than the purchase by Jacobsen in the 1950's. The engine turns over smoothly though has no compression, quite possibly from sticky valves. There also is no spark found. The good news is that a fine mechanic like you should have this collectible engine running in no time. May be missing a fastener or two though seems to be otherwise complete with no chips on the fins and good tin with no dents. The original "Johnston Lawn Patrol" decal has a few missing spots though is legible and may clean up further with the 3-1/2" x 7" round gas tank shiny clean with very little rust. The Carter "N" carburetor appears to be complete though will likely need attention. Finally a check of the dip stick finds no gunk in the crank case. Your satisfaction is very important to my sleep. If there is ever a problem, mistake or misunderstanding I will do my very best to regain your trust. Check out my other items. Questions cheerfully answered. I can always combine your shipping.
