RARE Large Meiji Antique Japanese Octagonal Floral Jardiniere Pot ~CELADON~ - $398 - (Deerfield, VA)

This auction is for a beautiful antique Japanese celadon porcelain jardiniere or flower pot. The porcelain jardiniere is octagonal in shape and stands on four celadon feet. There are floral decorations on each of the eight side panels and on the rim at the top. Most of the panels have green leaves and what might be brown blossoms or pine combs. One panel has a beautiful pink and white flower. This porcelain is the classic Japanese celadon which is highly sought & prized by collectors. I have collected many of these Japanese celadon jardinieres & planters through 50+ years of collecting. This jard is a very nice size with a beautiful design. It is substantial at 6 3/4" high and weighing 4.68 pounds. There is a hole in the bottom for drainage but a previous owner plugged the hole with florist clay (I think). I believe it could be removed by the buyer. I would date the antique celadon jardiniere in Meiji Era (1868 - 1912) but it could be a little later, from the Taisho Era (1912 - 1926). The jard is in excellent antique condition with age expected wear. There are natural characteristics common in old celadon porcelain and perhaps a few surface scratches. Most noticeable are spots & pitting in the celadon that occured in the making of the jard. On close inspection of these spots, I did not find any spots that are actually chips with the bare porcelain showing. The bottom of the jard is unfinished and has darkening & debris (and the artist's clay). There are few shallow firing cracks around the feet (please see photo with arrows). The cracks do not appear to negatively impact the stability of the pot. I do not see any repairs around the feet or the base of the pot. The inside of the pot has celadon porcelain finished at the top. Farther down, the inside is unfinished and has some stains or darkening & the artist clay.
