Travel back in time with this vintage electric bass. Made in Japan in the early 1970s, it's an Epiphone EA-260 bass guitar. It is a thinline hollow body. According to the 2016 Vintage Guitar Price Guide, the EA-260 was made from 1970 to 1975. According to Walter Carter's "Epiphone: The Complete History,"Upon Epiphone moving its manufacturing operations to Japan, the Rivoli bass was discontinued and replaced with the bolt-neck EA-260 as part of the EA-Series line of instruments. In 1969, Epiphone had abandoned manufacturing of instruments in America and started importing Epiphone-branded instruments from the Matsumoku company in 1970. These instruments were not based on previous Epiphone or Gibson designs, but were merely re-branded Matsumoku guitars already in existence.The EA-260 was among these first imported Epiphone instruments. It had a maple laminate body, maple bolt-on neck and two doublecoil pickups. In 1976 the entire EA-Series was replaced by the ET-Series guitars and ET-Series Basses." Cosmetically, structurally and fictionally, this bass is in very good condition. It has minimal use wear. The frets are in good shape. The A-string tuner is a replacement. Other than that, I think it's all original. It has a string mute built into the bridge, which I really dig. I cleaned the two volume and two tone pots with DeOxit, so they should be basically static-free. No case. 30-1/4" scale length. I shimmed the neck so the 12th fret action is set at 4/32" on the bass side and 3/32" on the treble side. Truss rod works. Neck is reasonably, if not perfectly, straight. Cherry red finish. Thinline body is 1-7/8" thick around the edges. It's a sweet and gorgeous old bass. If you do make an offer during business hours, please know that I typically respond to offers within the hour.
