Fender Vibro Champ rare transitional 1965/66 pre-CBS Vintage Blackface Combo Amp - $1,699 - (Potsdam, NY)
Up for sale is a rare, very clean 1965/1966 vintage blackface Fender Vibro Champ combo amp in excellent condition. The amp’s serial number is A13117, which dates it to mid-1966; however, there is clear evidence that this is a super unusual transitional amp loaded with pre-CBS parts. For one, the front label says “Fender Musical Instruments,” while the back says “Fender Electric Instrument Co.” The transformer is stamped 606-5-39, which dates it to the 39th week of 1965 (the “5” indicating the last digit of the year it was produced), which means it was made sometime between September 27th and October 3rd, 1965.The Jensen/ Fender Special Design alnico speaker is original and the amp is equipped with two Amperex 12AX7 pre-amp tubes (I took the metal shielding off for photos and put them back on afterwards), a black plate Tung-Sol 6V6GTA power tube, and a black plate Sylvania 5Y3GT rectifier tube. It has a Mallory filter capacitor. A three-prong power cable has been added at some point. As you can tell from the pictures, the tolex is in great shape as is the grill. There are a few scuffs and blemishes on the amp, but they are minor (see pics) and are practically absent from the front, sides, and top of the amp-- for being a 52 year old amp, it’s in phenomenal condition overall and a rare bird. I do not have the original footswitch for the amp, but I do have a Fender-made RCA compatible footswitch that works great that I’d be happy to include. The amp itself sounds and plays wonderfully, and the overdrive breakup sounds fantastic. Total 5-watt bliss without blowing out the eardrums.Buy it now (or make a reasonable offer) for a great price today! I ship with tracking either same day or (at the very latest) next business day. Posted shipping rate is for the continental U.S. only. Quoted shipping cost covers all postage, insurance, and fees. Sorry, no international shipping.
