He immigrated to the United States in June 1923, where he changed his name to Carl Hallsthammar, in honor of his hometown Hallstahammar, but with one â??aâ? missing. He settled in Chicago, Illinois, where he completed his studies and founded his own school for wood carving. Hallthammar became a specialist in wood sculptures (portrait busts and statues) and relief carvings."
