Up for sale today is what we believed to be a laminated double bass by the Otto Rubner, the son of the famous German double bass luthier Josef Rubner in their plant in Markneukirchen Germany . We understand that Otto's son Johannes Rubner carried on his dad and grandfathers legacy of producing great double basses. Josef Rubner produces double basses from 1890-1927. This bass appears to be in good condition no visible crack as seen from our many pics. This is a true vintage German instrument . This particular bass was built after world war II . When Germany was force to pay reparations in the form of wood to the Soviet Union after the world defeated Hitler in World War II . This cause wood to become scarce and lead most of the German double bass instrument makers to resort to laminated wood to produce most of their instruments during the period of paying reparations in the form of wood to the soviet Union . They all specialized in Double Basses . I don't know the periods of the Cellos with the family but double basses were the main instruments in all 3 generations. The first was Joseph(Josef) R., b.4/7/1864-d.7/4/1927 Then his son Otto R., b.8/7/1885-d. 1963 Followed by Otto's son Johannes, b.2/10/1924 who is listed as still working with his father Otto in 1969. He passed his makers test in 1959 as listed in the Jalovec book of German makers. Their shop was in Markneukirchen Germany.
