Beautiful Vintage Chinese Cloisonne Dragon & Flaming Pearl Bowl ~Vintage Stand~ - $350 - (Deerfield, VA)
This auction is for a beautiful, large old hand crafted Chinese cloisonne bowl decorated with wonderful dragons chasing the flaming pearl. The background is black enamel with clouds created by cloisonne wires and the focal point of the design is a large dragon inside the bowl. The dragon looks fierce with teeth showing, a long swirling body and four feet with five toes each surrounding the flaming pearl. There are green waves of water under the dragon. On the sides of the bowl, there are two dragons face to face chasing a flaming pearl. This design wraps around the bowl for 25" of cloisonne work - mostly dragons. There are green waves of water in cloisonne around the base of the bowl. The metal on the rim and base of the bowl appears to be copper. The bottom is finished in blue enamel with cloisonne clouds. The vase is unmarked as is common with cloisonne of this age. Possibly late Qing or early Republic. A heavy, vintage wooden Chinese stand with 4 small feet is included in this auction. There are no chips, cracks or repairs on the stand. There are some surface scratches and rubs on the stand from being pre-owned. Dragons are admired in Chinese culture but thought to be a little greedy. They are often depicted in Chinese art as chasing a flaming pearl. They never catch it! Dragons are a favorite subject in antique Chinese cloisonne and highly sought by collectors. These dragon bowls are very popular with collectors and require great skill to create. I purchased the dragon bowl many years ago in California. The bowl in excellent antique condition with no damage and no repairs. There are no dents or bruises. There are no stains inside the bowl. There is no haze from liquids being used inside the bowl. There is very minor pitting as is common in antique cloisonne. There are some tiny flecks of enamel loss also common in antique cloisonne. There may be tiny surface scratches due to age. There is slight tarnishing and tiny spots on the copper at the top and bottom of
