Butia odorata (capitata) var. strictor - 20 seeds - cold hardy palm - $10 - (Aiken, SC)
This listing is for 20 palm nuts from the pindo palm Butia odorata (formerly known as B. capitata in the nursery trade). This is the "strictor" variety which holds stiffer and upward-pointing leaves. The parent palm is growing in USDA zone 8A. Palm nuts were collected fresh and cleaned (Sept. 2018). These are a little smaller than the normal B. odorata and there is typically one embryo per seed. Instructions: Sow in very well drained / sandy soil. Seeds may remain viable and sprout erratically over several years. Germination can be accelerated by carefully cracking the nuts to remove individual seeds and/or by incubating them at higher temperature (~100F). Seedlings can be directly planted in the ground in zone 8 and above but it is helpful to insulate them from extreme cold in the first few years.
