Exceptionally Rare South American Hand Carved Gourd Contaier, Museum Quality - $3,650 - (Lake Placid, FL)

Rare Museum quality early South American gourd container exceptional in quality of carving and detail of execution. It is in excellent original condition with no damage to either the lid or body of the gourd with no repairs The carved detail show scenes of hunters shooting a jaguar in a tree The next scene shows a thatched hut and workers harvesting fruit. The largest panel depicts a Catholic holiday procession with men carrying a pananquin with the statue of the Virgin Mary in front of a church. Below the lid is a band with an inscription. The inscription is misspelled showing the carver was illiterate. It reads FISTA BROSECION LOROJA. The S in Fista is backwards. The carved lid only fits in one way .The patina is original .
