The rare vintage handwoven Chimayo weaving was purchased in the 1940's, it has been in the same family, it was used as a bed coverlet in the guest room, then stored protected. You can use it as a wall hanging,wrap, blanket, window drape, sofa or bed throw. It is in good condition there are areas on the edges that are faring and one area that Grandma "repaired" (see photos) no stains. The background is burgundy, the motif is in red, turquoise, black, white and gray. 80 X 50"Chimayo weaving has a rich cultural history. Spanish settler families of northern New Mexico began weaving in the Chimayo valley in 1610-1620. Native Americans and Mexican Americans in the area often helped with herding the Churro sheep, shearing, dying, carding, spinning and weaving.
