Joe & Rose Maphis & Kentucky Colonels live at the1965 UCLA Folk Festival, - $5 - (Jenner, CA)

JOE MAPHIS & Rose Lee Maphis live concert UCLA Folk Festival, with Kentucky Colonels doing Watermelon on the Vine Same time frame as my auction of unreleased Doc Watson and Clarence White recording. This mini concert has great singing and playing on it, and the emphasis is on folk, not C&W, which they also did really well. So, you won't find any electric instrumentation here, and Joe plays banjo, his wannabe 5 string banjo style on the 4 string banjo (Sourwood Mtn., Cornbread and 'Lasses and Sassafras Tea)! He then does a wonderful solo version of 9 Pound Hammer (Merle Travis style, great playing and better singing!) plus Soldiers' Joy and Old Joe Clark Medley, played 99 mph on his doubleneck. They then are joined for an encore number, Watermelon on the Vine, backed up by the Kentucky Colonels (Clarence & Roland White, Roger Bush, Billy Ray, Leroy Mack/dobro & Bobby Sloane on fiddle), played really fast and well! I was at this concert, and fortunate to be able to hear it again and record it off the radio, so there is no CD artwork, only an artistic recording! I was also at the festivals' guitar workshop, which featured Joe Maphis, Clarence White and Doc Watson! Joe was very encouraging of both Doc & Clarence at the workshop, and Joe promoted the Kentucky Colonels a lot, from when they first got started! The quality is excellent for an old recording (circa 1965), no background noise or hiss. I'd say for guitar aficionados and those who appreciate music, this is a priceless recording, for which I'm asking a small price! See my FEEDBACK page for feedback! SHIPPING IS $3/IN USA, $4/International
