1956-63 B&W ARTVUE HOF TYPE 2, AL SIMMONS, AUTO, PSA/DNA, EX 5 - $5,000 - (Abbeville, LA)

Boldly signed on the front bottom. Simmons was inducted into HOF in 1953 and died less than three years later, making his window for signing plaques extremely short. He remains today one of the top ten most rare signed plaques. Unlike the autopen forgeries from the "Bobby Moore" collection sold into the market years ago, here is a genuine Al Simmons signed plaque. Although PSA/DNA graded this offering a EX 5, it is stronger than most of the higher graded plaques including a NM-MT 8 in my own collection. On close inspection, you will see a "weak" finish of the "S" in Simmons, and some blurring (smudge) at the tail of the auto, after the final "s". In my opinion the eye appeal of this auto is excellent, but I will let you be the judge.
