1880's Merrick Thread Black Americana Trade Card Featuring Alligator & Boy - $6 - (Pine Bluffs, WY)
Available is a colorful Victorian Era Black Americana advertising trade card for the Merrick Thread Co. The card measures approximately 4 3/8 inches tall by 3 inches wide. The image features an African-American boy safely hanging above a very mean looking alligator using Merrick Tread Co. Best Six Cord #8. The bottom of the card reads, "FOOLED DIS TIME, CULLY. DIS COTTON AINT GWINE TO BREAK". The reverse of the card is illustrated and further advertises the Company's six cord soft finish spool cotton thread that can be used for machine and hand sewing. The card is in good condition, but does have a one inch surface wrinkle near the upper left hand corner. The back has a some very old glue residue on the corners and an a price amount and number written in pencil.
