Souvenir program from the pre-Broadway tryout tour of the failed Sondheim musical, ANYONE CAN WHISTLE, which starred LEE REMICK, ANGELA LANSBURY, and HARRY GUARDINO, is filled with first-day-of-rehearsal photos. Music and lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM. Book and direction by ARTHUR LAURENTS. Choreography by HERBERT ROSS. Produced by Kermit Bloomgarden and Diana Krasny. The show played only nine regular performances, following twelve previews, once it got to Broadway. With HENRY LASCOE (Lansbury's thespic nemesis who conveniently died during the out-of-town tryouts), Arnold Soboloff, James Frawley, Peg Murray, and Johnny Haymer. Condition: The previous owner damaged the upper right corner of the front cover, and that crease is present throughout the book. The strange stripe across the word "anyone" is a result of manufacture. Note that the colors are actually more vivid than my scan suggests.
