Antique Georgian Amethyst Paste and Sterling Silver Riviere Necklace Circa: Very early 1800s with cupped collets, not pinched Riviere necklaces were 'the' necklaces of the Georgian era, and a staple of every woman's wardrobe. Georgian sterling silver necklace set with purple amethyst paste stones. Marks: None Metal tests from 800 to 925 sterling. Cupped collet set, foil back paste stones. Paste stones were hand cut and it is said that they took more skill to facet than real gemstones. The necklace also shows some tool marks on the metal. It is either from England or France. Weight: 27.4 grams Length: 15 1/2" Hook and ring clasp Average size of stones: 11mm x 8.3mm Antique box not included.
