1910 $2.50 Gold Coin NGC PR-65The proofs of 1909 and 1910 were made with a 'Roman' or satin-finish to improve sales with contemporary collectors who didn't like the matte proof finish of 1908. These coins turned out to be equally unpopular with collectors who were used to proofs with mirrored fields that contrasted with raised design features. The mint returned to matte proofs for 1911-1915. This coin is outstanding with the squared rims and striking characteristics that are diagnostic of these beautiful proofs. A wonderful orange-gold patina coats wonderful satin surfaces.
