Round Table & 4 Chairs The table is a circular pedestal table in the Ming style having an inset floating top consisting of a single plank of finely figured south China hardwood, most likely rosewood, the apron decorated with a frieze of spaced, blind-fretwork, consisting of a stylized leiwen (cloud & thunder) motif, carved in raised relief, supported by a six-sided conical pedestal, each facet paneled and centered with a Chinese shou longevity blessings roundel, on a molded base and raised on compressed bullnose bracket feet. The top is very easily removable from the pedestal, which make it easier to transport and move the table around. The four four dining chairs each have a yoke crest-rail with square scrolled ends attached to conforming square scrolled stiles, centering a vertical tablet splat pierced with a shou ‘longevity’ roundel of finely carved fretwork, the back joining an inset floating seat framed in an ice-plate edge, on carved and shaped seat rails attached, by compound mitered mortise & tenon joints, to square legs. The front pair terminating in carved horse hoof feet, the rails neatly carved with a pearled edge, continuing along the inside corner of each front leg. This set is in good condition considering its age. The backs of the chairs have had some older movement and gabs in some sections and have been filled and re glued (see photos).
