A nice bonus is this piece retains its original carrying case which is amazing considering this is over 200 years old.Items such as this were exceptionally expensive and this snuff box would have been prominently placed on a table. What makes this piece exquisite is that it is musical. The host or guest could slide the left lever and hear wonderful music play - this was a "show off" piece that could also be carried to a friend's home in the carrying case, which this piece also has.The musical movement is a very early cylinder design with solid steel teeth (no soldered weights) and no dampers (they were not invented yet). The musical arrangement is pleasing and plays exactly as it should. I fully serviced the movement - no broken teeth.The case has fine engraving which was well executed and is in outstanding condition. The piece is properly hallmarked with the King George III tax stamp, Lion Passant and maker's mark which I do not recognize. There are not any date codes.
