Beautifully Restored Durant-Dort Early 1900's Horse-Drawn Surrey Carriage - $3,000 - (York, NY)
For sale: Fringe-top, 2-Seat Surrey carriage. This style of buggy would be the equivalent of today's family station wagon. Built around 1900 by the Durant-Dort Carriage Company of Flint Michigan, this would be among the final models of their horse-drawn carriage production. The Durant-Dort Company was the largest manufacturer of carriages in the US. In 1908 William Durant founded General Motors and they transitioned to the manufacture of Horseless carriages shortly thereafter. This particular Surrey-style carriage was lovingly and meticulously restored by Conewango Carriage & Carts in Conewango Valley, NY. Their tag can be found along side of the original Durant-Dort tag on the rear axle. The finish is an olive-green paint with gold pinstriping and the interior is luxurious red velvet velour. Since completion of the restoration, it has only been outside for photos. It comes as shown, including the single-horse hitch. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos. Thanks for looking!
