1726~LEONHARD MAUSSIELL~AN EXQUISITE VIOLIN~RECENT RESTORATION IN CREMONA ITALY~ - $29,000 - (Hiawassee, GA)
LEONHARD MAUSSIELL, LAUTTEN-und GEIGENMACHER EN NURNBERG 1726 LEONARD MAUSSIELL'S VIOLINS WERE CUSTOM MADE FOR HIS CLIENTS. I INHERITED THIS WELL-CARED FOR & TRULY FINE INSTRUMENT FROM MY LATE FATHER. IT HAD BEEN IN THE FAMILY for 100 YEARS--CONSTITUTING A THIRD OF ITS LIFE--and helped my musician father pay his way through medical school in the 1920's. I REALIZE that an instrument of this age, quality and workmanship is typically offered through fine auction houses such as Sotheby's, Tarisio's & Bonham's who have sold them in the past. I am offering it on eBay, however, as an opportunity for the serious collector or musician to buy it directly from the owner, complete with paperwork regarding the restoration, the restorer's name, a record of old repairs, string purchases and the owner's story of the violin's journey. IT WEIGHS JUST UNDER 15 OUNCES. I am told by all who play it, view it and desire it for their auction houses, that it is truly a beautifully made instrument. I took it to Cremona, Italy, in 2015 where it was restored by a graduate of the Cremona violin making school. Upon completion of the restoration and after many years of "quiet", it made its debut in the loving hands of a Romanian woman seen in the photos. She is a classical violinist of 20 years and the former winner of the best child violinist in the country of Romania for the year 2002. Also, a retired gentleman formerly of the Atlanta symphony & a career violinist played it & rated it is a "fine" instrument; both artists expressed they "loved" it! PLEASE STUDY THE PHOTOS carefully as they speak to the quality and workmanship of this Maussiell work. It is no common instrument, but unlike its French and Italian counterparts that carry a high price tag, this German maker's work can be bought for considerably less. It is 100% authentic as can be seen in photos #4 & #5 taken during the restoration. Also available is a letter dated 1990 with Sotheby's evaluation of its authenticity and then estima
