AMERICAN EAGLE HEAD OFFICERS SWORD & SCABBARD - $995 - (Philipsburg, PA)

E026W, Circa War of 1812 period. Steel blade 28", all brass mountings with American eagle and shield hand guard. Grip of finely polished bovine bone (cow bone and thereby complies with ebay policy) and finely engraved brass scabbard with much nickel plating remaining. Eagle pommel of brass, an intertwined Christian cross and a Naval anchor beneath a kingly crown is engraved on scabbard, indicating a Masonic affiliation which is very typical of military officers swords at that time...almost the entire officer's corps were Masons, going all the way back to George Washington. Overall length sheathed 35". In overall good condition, sound, an American statement to our patriotic past. All original and complete, will clean up nicely, ship weight 4 pounds.
