Antique 19th C. American Scrimshaw Powder Horn - $6,500 - (Sandwich, MA)
Superb antique scrimshaw powder horn. Rare example of nautical folk art applied to a powder horn, unknown maker circa 1850. Stars suggest a military connection, while the fish, ship and lighthouse are clearly nautical! Incredible imagery with tip, throat, and plug carved as well. Purchased from top Americana dealer, Kenneth Olson nearly 20 years ago. Great color and patina, measures 14" long. Includes modern strap.
