The hand tooled and embossed leather case features colonial iconography of birds, animals and plants including images of pomegranates and lions. The polychrome leather has rich color and patina and the box has a hand forged iron clasp, corner brackets, handles and lock-plate. The inside of the case is made of rough wood. This Petaca measures approximately 23 inches long, 14-1/2 inches deep and 7 inches tall. There are some cracks and tears in the leather and the original hinges have been replaced. Other than the above mentioned this Spanish Colonial Petaca (document case) is in very good antique condition.
