precision spin top / flamed titanium & copper - $89 - (Alamosa, CO)
Here is a precision spin top that I handcrafted from 10-2-3 titanium. This alloy is more difficult to machine and is much stronger than the more common 6al4v , which is an overkill for a top, but I had a remnant left over from another job and decided to use it for this top. After the machining was done, I flame anodized it. The copper stem is faceted on the lower portion and has a Si3N4 ceramic ball contact point pressed into it. The diameter is 1.588", it is 1.406" tall and it weighs 60 grams. The colors change in different light, so some of the photos were taken in natural light outdoors and some were taken indoors. I spun the top a few times and the best time I got was 8.10 on a 3x concave mirror. It spins smoothly, and with practice I imagine it could probably spin even longer. A black velvet carry bag is included.
