Fisher SA-300 tube amplifier -updated - $1,297 - (Hamtramck, MI)
For sale is a very rare and excellent sounding vintage Fisher SA-300 tube amplifier. It was restored to fully operating conditions with new coupling , and bypass capacitors and new rectifier , output tubes.Power supply can caps test good. I simply added one single Nichicon cap to make output stage more comfortable (now 100uF instead of original 60uF) but not to stress tube rectifiers too much. Output stage coupling caps were changed to venerable orange drops PP caps. They do sound good and fit the space. The rest of coupling caps are Cornell&Dubilier mylar caps to keep the original voicing. Cathode bypasses are Nichicon .. Input gain pots are bypassed since they are intermittent and no amount of cleaning could help them.Signal tubes are NOS testing really nice sounding RCA'sLong plate , halo getter 12ax7 tests as follow (GM/mA)1)48/5.64 ; 48/5.562)50/582; 50/5.89Minimum for good testing tube is 32 and the results are excellent.Clear top RCA 12AU7 1)92/11.40 ;100/13.052)102/13 ;100/12/44Minimum for good testing tube is 56 and the results are very good too.Mullard reissue EL34 quad of power tubes was purchased specifically for that amp and the tubes have only a few testing hours and still need 50+ of burn- in time . Also 2x JJ GZ34 rectifiers which are actually a nice tubes are new.Amp will come with DC and AC balance set accordingly to Fisher manual. I The amp is quiet and plug &play. It's a lab grade Fisher unit and one of the factory's best effort. It's most likely better than any comparable modern tube power amplifier One minor issue is that like most vintage amps of that era it was meant to be powered from the preamplifier power socket so it lacks Power ON-OFF switch. Switchable power strip or extension cord is the solution for that problem.
