ITEM DESCRIPTION Mint Pair Restored 6BQ5 PPP USA - Baldwin 54 - Mono Tube Power Amplifier Amps 8TEN1944 SKU: 5302187784 mint PAIR of early 1960's vintage quality USA made mono power amps with 12AU7 pre-amp and phase inverter tubes and point to point wiring (no pc boards that commonly give problems.) These amps sound amazing - silky smooth with such detail that on occasion you'll likely hear colors and tones you've not heard before in songs you know well. Check the size of those output transformers. These produce 30 old school watts each constant so are quite enough to make all but the most stubborn inefficient speakers sing loudly and cleanly if needed. They can provide about twice that power at musical peaks. At normal listening levels they are just bit more than idling so are producing crystal clean sweet 6BQ5 tube sound, many say is the very best sounding pentode audio output tube. Imagine, 30W of 6BQ5 sound!Very nice wide sound stage created with the restored corrected voltages and parts upgrades throughout. The combination of these amps and the restoration will make your music come alive again. Sounds amazingly good with plenty of smooth highs, buttery mids, and tight bass. This quality is in part due to the bias supply, yes these amps run with a fixed bias of -12.4Vdc on the input grids. With this fixed negative bias on the grids and 330Vdc B+ on the plates, the larger Russian 6BQ5/EL84's are operating under their most ideal conditions and so contribute to their fine sound reproduction as well as maximum power output. You can see bits of blue on the inside at the tube plates when looking in the peep holes confirming proper operation. The two12AU7's may be experimented with, replacing with different brands for different tones. Now there is so much gain in these amps that they run perfectly with 12AU7s instead of 12ax7, and yes, they only use 2 per chassis, not 3.
