ALTEC A-100 A tube amplifier.This is the last price drop, if not sold for $2000.00, it will go back into my collection. If you are reading this ad, I'm guessing that you are probably already familiar with this rather rare amplifier. I originally purchased this amp from an audio museum in CT. several years ago. When I got it, it was "working", but was a bit on the "noisy" side. At that time, I decided to measure every single resistor and capacitor and decided to replace everything that was out of spec. This included all four chassis mounted electrolytic caps. Each 'lytic capacitor was replaced with a much better quality oil filled NOS capacitor . This eliminated 95 % of the measurable hum at the output. The rest of the fine tuning was done by measuring and replacing any of the Carbon Composition Capacitors that had drifted and replacing them the the correct value Allen Bradley Carbon Comps (some with a higher wattage rating). NO holes were drilled in the chassis during the upgrading/restoration process. I also used the space on the chassis reserved for an input transformer (if needed) to mount a very low DCR choke, which really beefs up the power supply. If I could find another Altec A-100 in this price range, I would never sell this one, but as you can see if you do an eBay search, the other Altec A-100s that are listed, are for DOUBLE what I am asking for this rare amplifier.
