Antique Copelands China England, Gilman Collamore New York Saucers 5 1/4” - $446 - (Bristol, ME)

3 saucers Gold Trim cabbage pink roses scolloped petal edge. Red marking 6877 & 6477 Green markings ****Flea bite chip on bottom on one!!!! DATE STAMPED: JULY 1886-1888 OVER 125 YEARS OLD. STAMPED: COPELAND The Spode Company sold to the Copeland Company in England. From Copeland’s Museum A year of introduction of 1886 which would have been ordered from Tiffany and Co., in New York. The impressed mark COPELAND above a B refers to the ‘B body’, a cream coloured earthenware most often used for dessert or dinner wares. There is one plate with an impressed mark COPELAND above an I. This mark is known to be found on items with a date code for 1888. There is no pattern as such, the item is left in the white and glazed then decorated with a simple gilded band around the edge and gilding to the gadroon moulded rims. Tiffany and Co. would have paid a fee to Copelands to have their own backstamp printed in black on the backs of these items. On image ‘china 15’ there is an impressed date code, Y above 86, which stands for May 1886. Three plates have J over 88 for June 1888.
