Early 1900's Germany Lehmann EPL #'s 470 & 471 Anxious Bride Tin Wind Up Toy... - $2,500 - (Fresno, CA)
Just in time for Christmas, I've decided to part with some of my prized toys. So I thought that I would start with one of my favorites. This toy is called the Anxious Bride. It is basically 2 separate toys in one. The 3-wheeler is called Mars Rad Cycle. I suppose that Mars is the driver's name. This toy contains the wind up mechanism. When wound, the driver steers left and right while pumping his legs furiously to simulate pedaling. Supposedly, he is driving erratically to prevent the bride-to-be from jumping out of the carriage and running away. She really is anxious. But anyway, the carriage portion is called Nanni. A nickname given to EPL's sister Annette. She moves up and down, back and forth while waving her kerchief and wiping away tears. Did I mention that she is anxious? Nanni is attired in a cloth dress and matching tin blouse and wide brimmed red hat. She is wearing a mink stole, as well. On top of the lady's hat, you will find a tin feather. All parts of this toy are original, showing just the right amount of age-related patina and dustiness, commensurate with a 100 year old toy. This old beauty functions but, I feel that it could definitely use a few strategically placed drops of lubrication to make it work perfectly. That will be up to you, the new owner...
