Vintage 1930-40 Capt ELLERY THOMPSON (1899-1987) Stonington CT ship Painting OOC - $461 - (South Paris, ME)

Greetings! Thank you for joining us in order to preview an exceptionally scarce and distinctive maritime original for any variety of seafaring historian’s exhibit, serious collector’s decorative accent or oceanfront home fixture. Offered here is an original (circa 1930-40) early Noank - Stonington, CT. native son and legend of the high seas - Captain ELLERY THOMPSON oil on canvas. Perhaps one of his earlier works - a painting capturing the majestic dominance of a fishing boat or whaler, navigating the white caps, under pink hue horizons. The signed original is framed (40 1/2” x 31”) with the frame being wood in gold paint. The frame shows some scuffs and dings - while being rugged and visually pleasing. The actual canvas is supple, with no dimples and no compromise to the oil paint. The original Ellery Thompson painting does show some mentionable dust spotting - unless intended as accents for the pink clouds. In order to be transparent with the description - we are going to consider the subtle browning to be foxing - while not seeing such discoloration at even the white sails of the sailing vessel. A clean original for any serious collector - leaving any detailing or changes in the framing upon your skill and discretion.
