Clipper Ship, Antique model ship of "The Great Republic" - $1,050 - (Madison, WI)
Wonderful "folksy" rendition of the largest clipper ship ever built, "The Great Republic." This vintage ship came from a Massachusetts gallery many years ago and was most likely made there, perhaps by a member or friend of the family. It comes with a family history of the ship's captain, Joseph Limeburner. The ship has a working wheel (when turned it moves the rudder), with a steel bow, anchor and hull. It was launched in 1853 for the Australian trade, she had 4-decks, 4-masts and required a crew of 130. Cargo capacity was 6000 tons. The ship has a working wheel, with a steel bow, anchor, and hull, all perched on a sturdy handmade stand. This ship would be a great addition to any maritime collection. It's dimensions are 45-inches long and 36-inches high.
