1940's Matthews V car tether race car stream liner complete. Car is 17 inches long and was the first brand to break 100 MPH on the track. This survivor is in very good "as raced "condition. Percy Matthews owned the Matthews Foundry in Fresno, CA. He bought a gas powered tether car in 1938. He quickly became disenchanted with its performance and started designing his own cars. He became good friends with Ray Snow and soon became the principal Foundry for Snows Hornet 60 spark ignition engine. Matthews died during WW 2 and after the war the Matthews Company built and marketed the fabled Matthews V Car. Some say V was for victory in the war. Immediately it was a World Beater setting records every where it ran and it was the first car to break the 100 MPH barrier.
