1984 Roland G-707 Electric Guitar w/ Roland GR-700 Guitar Synthesizer & Case. - $1,375 - (Yellow Springs, OH)
Travel back in time with this remarkable electric guitar with its accompanying synthesizer. Both made by Roland in Japan, the guitar serial number (431965) dates it to June 1984, while the synthesizer (442320) dates to July 1984. It's a classic '80s guitar. Many thought guitar synthesizers would be the Next Big Thing, but they never really caught on. Maybe they're a bit too complicated for guitarists. Roland made these models from 1984 to about 1987, so this is from the debut year. Bigtime guitarists like Jimmy Page even posed in ads for it. I love this rig. Though odd shaped, the G-707 is a great guitar. The stabilizer bar looks funny, but it keeps the neck in great shape. Two hot hum buckers. 25-1/2" scale. Silver body. No tremolo arm. It can be played just as a straight guitar, bypassing the synthesizer. The guitar has some ordinary wear, like tarnish on the metal finish on the humbucker covers and whatnot. The fretboard and frets are in good shape. Great tight tuners. Really, it's a surprisingly nice guitar, just as a guitar. Comes in the original hard case, which is in good solid condition. The GR-700 guitar synthesizer is quite the contraption. The guitar connects to the synthesizer with a 24-pin cable. The synthesizer is connected to a regular amplifier with a regular 1/4" cable. I've been having a blast messing with the synth for the last two days, but cannot say I've fully tested every feature. It's like trying to proof read a set of encyclopedias. It does not come with any of the memory cartridges. Everything I tried on the synth works. I found the manual online and can send you a PDF of it. I absolutely love the rig for two reasons: (1) it's a good guitar and (2) the synth makes some CRAZY sounds. The synth too has some ordinary age wear, most notably a couple scratches on the 5 pedal. If you do make an offer during business hours, please know that I typically respond to offers within the hour. Questions? It will be well packed with plenty of new 1/2"
