Truly exceptional....the epitome of elegance and stateliness.... Pair of thoroughly-carved walnut armchairs, of elegant elements/form, with fine handmade custom upholstery rather-certainly made exclusively for this pair of chairs. - Likely of French make/origin- Late 19th/early 20th C.- Very-sound, solid and in great condition; no issues evident, whatsoever- Photos taken in overcast outdoor light, so the real warmth of the color-tone of the walnut is not effectively captured- OVERALL dimensions: 47" high x 29" wide x 30" deep- Wonderful X-stretchers underneath, with the full/like-themed treatment - Seats are firm; not a cushy 'sit', but a proper, well-supported one...- Fabric is in fine condition, just the slightest hint of the backing visible, in the central area, on the 'Mideast-scene' seat. And...you might not even so-note, if not called-out. Really, a non-issue, but...given the age, I felt I must find something to confirm their age..:)- A peach-tone fabric covers the rears; a mild sun-fading, actually yields a pleasing effect! {Though, they have been covered with a supplemental covering, for some time...} - Solid, with some fair heft, fit for a king & queen... Or, your special guests, clients, etc.- Crisp, masterful carving, and the back-facing wood is also carved, thus suited for room-center use- The fabric scene detail....Heraldic, with Royal imagery, and perhaps an out-in-the-Empire complementarycontrasting scenes....is on a brown ground and, again, no doubt specifically-commissioned for THIS pair of chairs. Fine needlepoint work, with PETIT-point work on the figures for fine detail. No expense, time or effort was spared- A most-pleasing flow...as the eye follows the scrollwork down the arms...
