RARE 1870S WESTERN ELECTRIC LINEMAN'S POCKET RELAY TELEGRAPH KEY SET SUPERB - $1,150 - (Bethlehem, PA)
Scarce little pocket telegraph relay set manufactured by the Western Electric Company in the 1870's. This pocket relay incorporates both a sounder and a small "camel back" key within the so-called "gutta percha" or hard rubber pocket case with cover. The overall condition is near mint original condition and complete given the age and utilitarian purpose of the instrument. The arm of the key is marked "W. E. MANUF'G. CO. CHICAGO." The dimensions of the case are 5 inches by 2 1/4 inches by 1 3/4 inches. The hard rubber case is in excellent condition and is free from any cracks or chips. As is characteristic with this material, there is some slight fading to a chocolate brown color.
