1918 Vibroplex Original Telegraph Bug SN 63515 made by H. Martin in New York - $375 - (Baton Rouge, LA)
For Auction: A Vibroplex No 1 key from 1918 SN 63515, also called the "Original" referring to its early 1904 introduction. From the Vibroplex Company at 253 Broadway, it's label New York, the No 1 key was it's "bread & butter" if only because it was easy to understand and a challenge to adjust. Unlike the single contact "X" model which used a shorting bar to quiet the vibrations during the dash mode, the separate dot & dash movements of the No. 1 were understood right from the outset. Now about 100 years old, the key has survived well. Built on a cast iron base which was hand filed to smooth the corners, it was then drilled, and then black laquered to give, at least when it was new, a stunning show of itself. The parts on this were probably flash coated with nickel but were hand polished down to their brass base. The label, soon to be replaced by the "red Bug" arched & embossed lable, proudly displays a string of patents, hard fought for in a very competitive economy. Condition: Used, very good physical condition and we see no problems or issues with it. The key needs a careful cleaning and proper display case for its continued safe keeping. Please study the photos and ask any questions now. We will do our best to answer. Terms: The key here at auction is auctioned as a desirable commodity and will be well packed. It is offered AS IS and it is not returnable. Please contact me NOW if you have any questions. Shipped Quickly & Packed Well.
