Georgian Black Dot Paste Silver Brooch - $165 - (Shady Cove, OR)
A lovely Georgian silver brooch, unmarked but tested as typical for this period of time, set with lots and lots of hand cut paste each in the closed back setting with a little black dot behind them to imitate the cutlet of a diamond (see last photo, not taken with a flash to sort of see the spots). The brooch is in the shape of a flower with the pedals curved to the back with rounded edges. All the stones are original and present. It measures about 1 1/2" in diameter, the sterling is thick and although small it's a hardy brooch with the pastes all firmly set down with tiny prongs; no chips or cracks found with a loop. To the reverse the typical c-clasp t-hinge, there is also a little tiny threaded cylinder at the other end for a separate pin to be used as a hair or hat pin but unfortunately it has gone amiss (and I find this happens a lot with jewels of this age).Likely English in origin (I had this sent to me from an dealer in England so yes, I think English) but possibly French, circa 1800 or thereabout.
