1860's Cr.20 $50 The State of ALABAMA Note - CIVIL WAR Era RARE!! B19 1860's Cr.20 $50 The State of Alabama note from Montgomery, AL. The third state issue is extremely rare and only one domination, the $50, is known. The primary difference between the Cr.20 and Cr.13 is that the 2nd issue was redeemable in either Confederate Treasury Notes or 5% Alabama bonds at the option of the state, while the 3rd issue was only redeemable in Confederate Treasury Notes issued on or after Feb. 17, 1864. The dateline is blank for this note but the series was issued around late 1864 or possibly even 1865. This note features a portrait of Governor Watts at the center surrounded by cannons, flags, drums, cotton bales, ship masts, and other patriotic items. On the lower left is an Indian standing with a large bow. A large map is resting against a tree on the lower right. These 3rd issues were printed with a "50 FIFTY 50" protector in orange!
